ANKER/TABORN/CLEAVER has existed since 2003. Besides performing at numerous festivals and concertspaces in Europe, USA and Canada, the trio has released three highly critically acclaimed CD’s: Triptych (LeoRecords 2005), Live at the Loft (ILK-records 2009) and Floating Islands (ILK-records 2009/10). Both Live at the Loft and Floating Islands were listed in several ’best of 2009/10-lists’ in Denmark, Sweden, US and Central-Europe.
The music of ANKER/TABORN/CLEAVER is build on a concept of free improvisation- sometimes mixed with compositions/structures for improv by Lotte Anker. The trio is known and celebrated for their very adventurous and strong music which can be intensely hypnotic and dense but also lyrical, understated and beautifully fragile.
Lotte Anker: tenor-alto-sopranosaxophone & composer
Known for her intense playing and one of the strongest improvisers in the freeform/ improfield in Scandinavia + very active composer. Works currently also as leader of the octet:What River Ensemble and in trio w/ Sylvie Courvoisier and Ikue Mori.
Has also played and toured with a.o. Tim Berne, Marilyn Crispell, Herb Robertson, Fred Frith, Paal Nilssen-Love, Andrew Cyrille, Paul Lovens, Okkyung Lee, Joelle Leandre etc.
Craig Taborn: piano, keyboards, electronics
Very inventive and highly estimated both as a pianoplayer and his work with electronics. Craig has worked with a lot of pioneering and legendary musicians and groups like Roscoe Mitchells “Notefactory”, Tim Bernes groups:”Hard Cell” and “Science Friction”, David Torn’s: Prezens, Dave Holland and many others.
He also works with Chris Potter Underground + his own projects: Solo, Junk Magic, Craig Taborn Trio ao
Gerald Cleaver: drums
G.C. is known as a super attentive drummer with a beautiful sound and hypnotic play. He has played with a long list of musicians in many kinds of jazz/improv fx: Henry Threadgill, Roscoe Mitchell, Reggie Workman, William Parker, Tim Berne, Mark Helias, Ellery Eskelin, Charles Gayle, Miroslav Vitous, Tony Malaby ao.
Gerald is also the leader of the groups: Uncle June, Violet Hour and Farmers by Nature.
